Accreditation and State Regulatory Authorizations


Statement of Accreditation

Tuskegee University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees. State Authorization

Tuskegee University participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA), which provides a national framework for the interstate offering of postsecondary distance education. Through SARA, Tuskegee University may offer distance education to students located in participating states and territories.

Student Complaints

Tuskegee University is committed to addressing student concerns promptly and fairly through established University procedures.

Students enrolled in Tuskegee University online courses or programs should first attempt to resolve complaints through the University's established student complaint procedures.

SARA Student Complaints

Students located in a SARA member state who are participating in Tuskegee University distance education activities must first use the University's established complaint and grievance procedures.

If an eligible complaint remains unresolved after the student has exhausted Tuskegee University's available institutional complaint processes, the student may file a complaint with the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE), Alabama's SARA State Portal Entity.

SARA complaint procedures may also apply to supervised field experiences, such as practica, clinical experiences, internships, or student teaching, conducted in another SARA member state.

Complaints involving grades or student conduct are governed by Tuskegee University policies and are not subject to the SARA complaint process.

Professional Licensure

In accordance with U.S. Department of Education requirements under 34 CFR §668.43, Tuskegee University programs designed to meet educational requirements for professional licensure or certification required for employment in an occupation are identified below.

Professional licensure and certification requirements vary by profession and state.

Tuskegee University programs that may lead to professional licensure or certification include:

  • Architecture, B.Arch.
  • Education programs leading to teacher certification
  • Nursing, B.S.N.
  • Occupational Therapy, M.S.
  • Social Work, B.S.W. and M.S.W.
  • Veterinary Medicine, D.V.M.

Students considering a program that leads to professional licensure or certification should be aware that educational requirements for licensure vary by state. Tuskegee University is reviewing state educational requirements for its professional licensure programs and will provide information identifying the states in which each program meets or does not meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification.

Professional licensure may require additional requirements beyond completion of the academic program, including examinations, supervised professional experience, background checks, or other state-specific requirements.
